Hi Gideon:
It seems ironic that the one who would not come to my defense
when Peter Cavanagh was having an affair with my wife, when Peter Cavanagh
was committing the greatest violation of "Conflict of Interest", the act of
invading the privacy of one of his student's (he was my advisor at the
time) family, would be so vehement about conflict of interest. A
double-standard. I almost sued the university for what Peter did, but I
was not in a situation to do so. I was powerless, I was broke, I knew that
if I did I could kiss me Ph.D. goodbye. The dean of the Graduate school,
Dean Bartoo, told me that he was not concerned about the personal lives of
the faculty. Isn't that harrassment in the worse case scenerio. I was
powerless to get back at Peter, while he had wooed my wife away from our
marriage. I am still upset about it, but God has given me the power to
forgive. It is no longer in my hands, but God's. Whatever He does is OK
with me.
Best wishes to you. Keep being on the cutting edge of developing
biomechanical systems, and research techniques. You are one of a kind,
with guts, and savy for what it is like in the real commercial world. Quite
a bit different than the paper world of academia.
